For my second project, I made a short film, including a script. This project was based around zombie apocalypse stories, as well as American survivor T.V shows.
Creation Process
When I started project two, I planned to make a survival PSA, set in the 1950's. The whole idea was that the nuclear bombs were a new creation, and the idea was looming over everyones head. So it would make sense for there to be PSA with instructions on what to do in a nuclear emergency. Eventually though, the idea of taking a satirical approach to everything came up. I got the idea of making a parody shortly after that. The intention was to make a parody survival show set in a nuclear wasteland. The twist to it was that it was a normal town, without any problems. At the time, I really liked the idea. So I got in touch with a friend to help record and set a date over the weekend. That weekend a huge snow storm hit, so we ended up recording in heavy coats and snow boots. The video didn't turn out at all how I wanted it, but I didn't have time to do a re-shoot.
The script for the short served as my English portion. I used a script writing tool called Cetlix, which was really useful. For Social Studies, the idea was to annotate the script with useful facts and information... It didn't go so well. The Art portion was the video itself, as well as explaining the influences taken from other directors.
Script
The Woods 1
Survivor 1: The nuclear apocalypse is upon us! I've been lost in these here woods for months now, I see no escape!
Pan to civilization a few meters away
Survivor 1: Some of you might be wondering how I've been able to live in such hard conditions. Well, I'll be honest, it's been rough. But I was prepared. I had 2 minutes to prepare for the bombs. I grabbed all the food and water I could and ran to a basement. And I'm still alive! I've become a master of survival here, and today, I'll show you how you, too, can become a master survivor.
The Woods 1 Part 2
Survivor 1: Step one, you've gotta hunt. To hunt, you need a weapon. As an official eagle scout, I'm certified to make weapons and and kill whenever.
Add that he CANNOT kill
Survivor 1: *I hear a wild animal! With my handmade weapon,
Show NERF rifle
Survivor 1: I will slaughter the beast.
Show person on all fours from survival perspective, and shoot "ANIMAL"
Survivor 1: Another thing you have to look out for is hostile survivors. Not everyone can be as charming as I am (Winks at camera). Before more riveting excitement, let's go for a quick break!
*Most of the wild life would be decimated if there was a nuclear explosion. If not, the creatures would be horribly disfigured. When the only nuclear bombs used against other humans were dropped, 80,000 to 140,000 people died instantly.
Commercial 1
Announcer: We must urgently report a missing person. Please help us find this man. He is five foot nine, green/brown eyes, brown hair, and he is possibly dangerous. He was born in Uganda but reports say he was last seen in Pennsylvania. Please help us.
The Woods 2
Survivor 1: And we're back! While you were gone, I tracked down another survivor. He has lots of food
Zoom in on one can of ravioli
Survivor 1: I will try to remain peaceful, but I can't promise you anything.
The Fellow Survivor
Survivor 2: Um, hey man. What are you doing with that gun? I'm just trying to camp...
(Survivalist runs up to other man and shoots him with NERF gun, pockets ravioli).
The Woods 3
Survivor 1: Woo, it got a bit bloody there, huh? Sorry you had to see that, but that's the level of the situation!
Lots of hand gestures throughout.
Survivor 1: In this climate, you can't be the nice guy. Ever since the bombs dropped, everything changed. An atomic bomb was just dropped on the united states. Do you know what those bombs did to us? We've been plunged into a apocalypse, and I'm barely surviving.
*The heat alone from the blast was enough to kill three of the voices in my head, as well as the rest of my old group. **When the radioactive fallout dropped, I only had a tarp to protect me, and I'm still here. I'll be back in a minute.
*The heat from an atomic bomb is actually one of the most deadly components. If the blast itself doesn't kill you, the heat definitely will. **You would need more than a tarp to protect you from it. Fallout is the radioactive particles that result from a nuclear explosion. The fallout is made of small pieces of things like soil and fission products.
Commercial 2
Announcer: We have an update to the missing person situation. *The person is a mental hospital escapee. He believes America was attacked by Japan with atomic bombs. If you see him, do not engage, call the authorities immediately. Reports say he's been seen travelling in a group of fellow convicts or escaped patients, though it is unclear if that's still the case. Let's bring this man home. Thank you.
*Much like Hannibal Lecter, our survivor was in a mental hospital. Although instead of Barney, the survivor had a woman named Janet, and she was the worst.
The Woods 4
Survivor 1: When the bombs fell, I knew exactly what to do. *I ran to an old woman's basement, and hid there. **I waited approximately 72 hours, after which I returned to the surface. This radioactive fallout has been a killer, but my expertise in survival has helped me stay alive. I hope you learned something today, I've been ultimate survivor man, and I'll see you next time!
*He's close to accuracy. While it's usually not okay to barge into people's homes, during a nuclear emergency, people may be more understanding. It's best to enter and request shelter. **It's best to wait until you're alerted to return to the surface, however, if it's truly required, its best to wait as long as possible.
