To grab perspective, I read Lauren Oliver's 'Delirium'. This book is about a dystopian society where love is forbidden. The protagonist, Lena Haloway is almost due for her "cure" that removes all the love from her. The day that this test is to take place, she meets a guard named Alex and cannot control her emotions. She struggles to deal with her forbidden love as the world around shuns her for being different. I related this to homophobia and put my mind into that mindset. This gave perspective as a lot of things Lena thought and said, I would imagine would be similar to those that the media refuses to love and appreciate just because they don't fit their expectations for love.

In addition to reading Delirium, I wrote a speech as if I was someone with a high enough influence as Lin Manuel Miranda and Barack Obama. I used similar word structuring as they did, and similar concepts. I also wrote a rebuttal and proved how the thoughts I read from Mike Pence were irrational, and disgusting. I used rhetorical devices per Mrs. Detwiler's suggestion. This allowed me to leave the reader scratching their heads also thinking how a topic like this could be controversial. Hopefully making the audience realize that my opinion was the only valid one. Almost as if I am asking the reader, "How could you not believe love is love no matter whom you love?"
