My name is Nate Linder. I enjoyed Apollo due to the freedom to switch between subjects, the extended work times without interruption, and the ability to look at interesting subjects. My favorite project was #2, cults.
In project one I take a look at the Cold War. I analyze culture and propaganda from the Soviet Union and the United States of America, as well as looking at George Orwell's Animal Farm. Using these items, I looked at the meanings and intentions behind them, and it helped me better understand the Cold War.
During this project I helped write an ad that aired on the schools morning announcements, I also volunteered on May 4th for Give Local York, read Stephen King's The Running Man, and wrote persuasive peices on giving. in York Pa
For this project I researched three infamous cults in American history, the People's Church, Heaven's Gate, and the Branch Dividians. I write a dystopian short story, read the book Feed, and create Venn diagrams comparing the three cults. Another interesting and creepy part of my research was emailing with a Heaven's Gate representative to learn more about the motives of those who had a part in the suicide that left thirty eight dead.
I based my fourth project around the topic of the death penalty. Because I am against the idea of the death penalty, I wrote a law abolishing it and created a campaign pamphlet I would use to encourage people to vote in favor of this law. I also wrote a set of fictional stories about a death row inmate that look at the topic from the perspectives of four different people involved in the process.
